Thanks to a convincing performance for the most part, Bayern Munich celebrated a 2-1 win against Frankfurt on Saturday. The Reds have now recorded four competitive wins in succession and have secured qualification for next season's Champions League campaign. “I feel we're experiencing a better flow currently. We're a little more determined,” said Thomas Müller. With this win over Frankfurt, Bayern celebrated a successful dress rehearsal prior to the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday. “The best preparation for the fantastic football festival we're expecting on Tuesday is to win. Everywhere you can feel the energy we have at the moment,” declared Board Member for Sport Max Eberl. fcbayern.com has more of the post-match reaction.
Reaction to the Frankfurt game
Max Eberl (Board Member for Sport): “We gave a very focused performance today. We've been in a good flow ever since the game against Heidenheim. Now, we're in second place in the Bundesliga and are looking forward to a wonderful game against Real Madrid. The best preparation for the fantastic football festival we're expecting on Tuesday is to win. Everywhere you can feel the energy we have at the moment. We're looking forward to that game. A home game under the floodlights with 75,000 fans in a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. What more can you ask for?"
Thomas Tuchel: “It wasn't easy for us. Obviously, Tuesday's game played a role today already. We accepted that but we wanted to give a good performance nonetheless. We spoke about losing the ball too easily because we knew how strong Frankfurt's counter-attacks are. However, we only gave away a few chances today. We were very focused. Everyone gave a very serious performance . A victory is always the best preparation. You can't take that for granted and it wasn't easy. Therefore, the team deserves a lot of praise. Now, we're going to fully concentrate on Tuesday.”
Thomas Müller: “We deserved to win and actually missed a few opportunities. That's always a bit aggravating, particularly against teams defending deep. To create chances against those teams always requires a little bit extra. I feel we're in a better flow currently. We're a little more determined.”
Harry Kane: “It was a good performance, particularly in the first half. We were a little unfortunate to only have a 1-1 at half-time because we did have a few chances to score. Overall, it was a difficult game. It was a good win though and important to keep the momentum going. I hope we can take this confidence into Tuesday's game. Now, we're going to completely focus on the game against Real. It's going to be tough. We need to reach the levels we showed against Arsenal, maybe even more. Real has a fantastic team and a great history in this competition. I'm really looking forward to the atmosphere in the arena.”
Reaction from the Frankfurt camp
Dino Toppmöller (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “In the first half, we experienced some initial problems. Bayern were very sharp today which is why we had to defend a bit deeper. Eventually, we managed to free ourselves to an extent and then we scored. In the second half, we gave a decent performance up to the penalty. After that, Bayern did create any more chances. In the end, it was a deserved win for Bayern. However, we can take some positives on board. I would like to wish Bayern all the best for Tuesday.”
