Thomas Müller reaches 150 Champions League appearances

Thomas Müller brought up yet another milestone in his remarkable career by making his 150th appearance in the Champions League in Tuesday’s semi-final first leg against Real Madrid. The Bayern legend is the first German player ever to reach that number. Toni Kroos is just behind on 149.

Müller the German record holder

Only five players have ever played more games in the Champions League, with Müller in very fine company behind Cristiano Ronaldo (183), Iker Casillas (177), Lionel Messi (163), Karim Benzema (152) and Xavi (151).

And a look at the list of Champions League top scorers tells you why Müller has featured so often in Europe’s top club competition. No German has as many goals in the Champions League as the 54 from Bayern’s No.25, which is also more than legends like Thierry Henry (50), Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Andriy Shevchenko (both 48). In fact, only six players have more than Müller, who is without doubt one of the best of the best on this stage.

Müller’s Champions League career began 14 years ago against Sporting Lisbon:

Should Müller also feature in the second leg in Madrid, he’ll claim yet another record. Only one player has ever made more Champions League appearances for a single club. Müller currently shares second place with Casillas but is only one behind Xavi’s total of 151 with Barcelona.
