Harry Kane's England reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024 after the Three Lions won 5-3 on penalties against Switzerland in Düsseldorf on Saturday evening. Kane once again led the team as captain. The Bayern attacker had to be substituted with a knock in the 109th minute after a clash with Manuel Akanji.
In a match that was even for long periods, promising goalscoring chances initially were few and far between. But Breel Embolo then gave Switzerland the lead in the 75th minute. However, England equalised just five minutes later through Bukayo Saka. Neither team were able to score in extra-time, so the game went to a penalty shootout. England held their nerve from the spot to win 5-3 and as a result will face the Netherlands in the semi-finals in Dortmund on Wednesday.
