Walter Gfrerer – Head of Performance
Walter Gfrerer is responsible for fitness and athletics in Vincent Kompany's coachting team. The Austrian has been FC Bayern's Head of Performance since 1 July, being responsible for both the men's and women's teams as well as the youth teams at the FC Bayern Campus. Because he's in charge across the club, it's about recognising "where there's potential to create synergies and similar processes for all areas," according to Gfrerer. This includes athletics, diagnostics, rehab and individual training.
The 51-year-old, who previously worked at VfL Wolfsburg, AS Monaco and Red Bull Salzburg, will often feature on the training ground for day-to-day training at the beginning: "The more I succeed in terms of integration, the less I'll be on the turf."
Bram Geers – Athletics coach
The Head of Performance oversees a team featuring athletics and fitness coaches Peter Schlösser, Simon Martinello, Stephan Kerth, data analyst Soner Mansuroglu as well as Markus Murrer, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, and Bram Geers. The latter has been working with head coach Vincent Kompany for six years. It started at RSC Anderlecht, where new player-coach Vincent Kompany was looking for an athletics coach for his team.
"At that time I worked as a performance coach for the youth teams at Anderlecht," according to Geers: "He asked me if I wanted to try it out for two weeks to see how I organise the training. After two weeks we agreed to do it during pre-season, at the end of pre-season we extended it to the whole season. We've been working together ever since." The 31-year-old followed Kompany to FC Bayern. "I'm very glad to work for this club. It's the biggest club in Europe if you ask me," says Bram Geers.
