Michael Olise has reached the quarter-finals of the Olympics with the French national team. On Tuesday evening, the Équipe Tricolore defeated New Zealand 3-0 (1-0) in Marseille. FCB's new signing was initially rested and came off the bench in the 65th minute. It was the French side's third win in their third group game and meant they qualified as group winners. After goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta (19') and Désiré Doué (71'), Olise initiated the moive which decided the match in favour of the Olympics hosts. The FCB forward found Doué in the penalty area, but his shot was initially blocked. However, Arnaud Kalimuendo (74') then pounced on the rebound to make the final score 3-0.
Quarter-final against Argentina
On Friday evening (19:00 CEST), Olise and Co. continue their campaign with a clash against Argentina in Bordeaux. Although the South Americans finished their group level on points and goals with Morocco, they only progressed to the last eight as group runners-up due to the head-to-head comparison with the North Africans.
Olise's new teammates at FC Bayern head off on the Audi Summer Tour on Wednesday:
