The sporting highlights of this summer takes place in Paris with the 2024 Olympic Games from 26 July to 11 August. The men’s and women’s football tournaments kick off before then on 24 July, with several Bayern representatives set to be in action in France. A three-game group stage will then be followed by a knockout stage from the quarter-finals. With the men, the top two from each of the four groups advance. With the women, who have three groups, the top two and two best third-placed teams will progress.
France: Olise
Michael Olise has only been a Bayern player since Sunday following his move from Crystal Palace, but his first appearances after signing will be for France after being named in Thierry Henry’s squad for the hosts. Les Bleus kick off the tournament against the USA in Marseille on Wednesday, 24 January. They then face Guinea in Nice on Saturday, 27 July and New Zealand back in Marseille on Tuesday, 30 July.
Israel: Peretz
Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has been named in Israel’s squad and will begin their quest for gold against Mali in Paris on 24 July. They play again in the city on 27 July against Paraguay, before closing out the group against Japan in Nantes on 30 July.
Germany Women: Schüller, Gwinn, Bühl, Oberdorf, Lohmann
Lea Schüller, Sydney Lohmann, Giulia Gwinn, Klara Bühl and Lena Oberdorf make it five Bayern players named in Germany Women’s squad for Paris. Horst Hrubesch’s team open their campaign against Australia in Marseille on 25 July before facing the USA in the same place on 28 July. Germany then finish their group against Zambia in Saint-Étienne on 31 July.
