South Korea first-hand with Mathys Tel! The 19-year-old striker gives us a daily account of his experiences on the Audi Summer Tour 2024 on our website fcbayern.com and in the FC Bayern app. In his diary, Tel takes you behind the scenes in Seoul.
Hi, folks! Have you seen the feature with me and Aleks from Thursday evening yet? We were by the Hangang River together and ate ramen. It was tasty but it was also very warm – much warmer than in Munich! It was still nice, though. We also chatted to two people, the Koreans are so nice. They recognised me and said in English: "Mathys, please stay the way you are" and that I should continue to progress so well. That was nice.
Since a few of you asked what was in the bag that I received from a fan at the airport, I'll reveal this little secret in my diary: I got a card with a photo showing me on the football pitch, a fragrance and a map of Korea. That made me very happy because it was a personal gift.
Table tennis, football & German lesson
Day-to-day life at the hotel between the appointments is varied. We try to occupy ourselves either alone in our room or together. Sometimes we play rounds of table tennis, like today. Today I also played with Sacha Boey and influencer Younes Zarou. Aside from that, I also listen to a lot of music or speak to friends on the phone. But we also have duties like training, which we had at the World Cup Stadium today. Wow! I've never trained in front of 15,000 people before. That was impressive! I got so many messages on social media beforehand about how much the fans were looking forward to seeing me here – so was I in the end!
Another duty that I carry out almost as happily as playing football is my German lesson. Max, our teacher, has travelled to Seoul specially for that. I practise with Max every day for half an hour or sometimes even an hour. I'm currently learning the simple past: "Ich ging, ich dachte, ich wollte"...
The German language was very difficult for me at the start. It's got better because I try to speak as much German as possible every day, whether it's with team-mates, with people in Munich or even with my family. My mum also learned German once.
Friendly against Tottenham
That's enough for today. After the great training session in front of a big crowd in very warm temperatures, we need to rest a bit again. Tomorrow it's our friendly against Tottenham Hotspur. Make sure you watch it on FC Bayern TV so that you don't miss any of my goals ;)
Regards,
Mathys
