Bayern basketballers now in sign language

Like the FC Bayern men's and women's football teams, the FC Bayern Basketball team will now also use signs for each player to raise awareness of the issues of inclusion and self-determined participation. The project is another collaboration between FC Bayern fan club 'Red Deaf' and the 'Red against Racism' initiative for diversity and against discrimination of any kind. From now on, each player will present their sign on the scoreboard during the team announcement before games at the BMW Park and SAP Garden, while corresponding clips on their profiles on the website as well as QR codes on autograph cards will also be seen.

Herbert Hainer, president of FC Bayern: "We're very pleased that we can now once again draw attention to the important topic of inclusion with our two football teams in the men's and women's area and our FC Bayern basketball players with signs for the players. FC Bayern is once again sending out a clear message with all three professional teams: nobody should feel excluded at our club, everyone should find a home with us. Many thanks once again to our fan club ‘Red Deaf’ for producing the signs. It's important to us that the signs are developed by our fans in order to shape our society and future together."

Marko Pešić, managing director of FC Bayern Basketball: "It's a wonderful story that our new coach Gordon Herbert and his team have now got their own signs. Sport unites people and it is the task of all of us to create, strengthen and promote common ground. It's a great signal that our fans have come up with signs for people with hearing impairments because together we want to encourage people that there is always togetherness, cohesion and no exclusion, especially in sport."

The 'Red Deaf' fan club, which comprises people with hearing impairments, spent several weeks collating information and observations in order to develop characteristic gestures for each player and the new coach Herbert. The clips were created during a joint day of filming with the fan club led by chairwoman Martina Bechtold at BMW Park.

The signs of the FC Bayern players are also being shown in the line-ups at the Allianz Arena:
