FC Bayern
It's the next edition of a German-French classic: on Tuesday night, FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain meet in the Champions League for the 14th time. No other fixture between representatives of these two nations has been played more often. Read the facts and stats for the other stories that make this game so fascinating:
Bayern's run against PSG
FCB are narrowly ahead in the overall head-to-head with seven wins to Paris' six – the trend has been more one-sided in recent times, though. The German record champions have won each of the last three meetings between the two European heavyweights between 2021 and 2023. Only Juventus have managed more consecutive victories against the French capital club in Europe (six between 1989 and 1997). The Munich men also kept a clean sheet in all three of those encounters, which has never happened to PSG at European level.
Paris tarnish Bayern's impressive record
However, FCB have also learned that PSG are capable of being spoilsports. Indeed, the Reds have won 12 of their last 14 European matches against teams from France – the only two losses came against Paris in 2017 and 2021. The painful 3-2 defeat in April 2021 was also the only time in the last six home games against French sides that they've been beaten. Overall, Bayern have only lost one of their last 27 home matches in this competition (W22, D4) – and that was the aforementioned first-leg defeat in the 2020/21 quarter-final.
A 1-0 for the ages
Last time out in the UCL, Bayern claimed a narrow but deserved 1-0 victory against Benfica thanks to a Jamal Musiala goal – and made history in the process. It was the 33rd time that the German record champions have won by this scoreline in Europe's premier club competition, more often than any other team in its history since 1992. Despite that, the match probably won't stick in the memory as much as other narrow victories in the Champions League. Chief among them is probably the 1-0 success in the final against PSG in Lisbon in August 2020 – relive the whole match here.
Kimmich cutting through
Impressive numbers for our number 6: Joshua Kimmich has played more passes through at least one opposition line (59) than any other midfielder in the Champions League this season. Twenty of them have landed in the final third, which is also the best among midfield players.
Aiming for seventh straight win to nil
Bayern recorded their sixth successive win to nil against Augsburg on Friday evening. The Munich men have not achieved such a run since 2014. Now they're hoping to make it seven against PSG.
