Who scored the winning goal in FC Bayern's first cup success in 1957? Who were the four goalkeepers used by the German record champions in the 1991/92 season? With which club did Steffen Hamann twice win the German basketball championship before his move to Munich? At the Christmas Quiz at the *1900 clubhouse, the 40 participants, who were drawn from over 300 applications, had their knowledge tested. In the end it was the SAP Garden group with Stefan Buttler, Manfred Dinauer, Markus Erhorn and Armin Radtke who won first prize: a cap each from the exclusive members' collection, mulled wine and certificates.
Vice presidents Professor Dr Dieter Mayer and Walter Mennekes welcomed the members on behalf of president Herbert Hainer. The first edition of the quiz evening had taken place at the same location in February 2023, Mayer pointed out, followed by the next one in February of this year. And since the format had been so well received, "we thought we'd end 2024 with a cosy quiz evening", he explained. "It's great to have you here – without our members, the club would never be what it is today." The first vice president welcomed basketball legend Steffen Hamann, who was in attendance, before handing over to Mennekes. "We can all be proud of our FC Bayern – as we saw at our harmonious annual general meeting," he said. "The fact that Franz Beckenbauer was honoured by the club retiring his number 5 shirt was a wonderful gesture by the members, and we are also proud that we, together with you, always take a stand in society, not least with our diversity initiative ‘Red against Racism’." According to the two vice presidents, FC Bayern currently has over 382,000 members. In the 125th anniversary year, it would be a great gift to reach the 400,000 mark.
As in previous editions, the quiz was led by Fabian Raabe from the FC Bayern Museum and Martin Kummer, himself a long-standing member since 1989. This year, the FC Bayern office has organised a total of 22 member events with around 1,000 participants, including an exclusive presidential talk with Herbert Hainer, various Stammtisch forums in Munich and further afield, themed workshops and so-called "feel-good events" such as the birthday brunch, Schafkopf tournaments, darts tournaments, member photo shoots and quiz evenings. During the event, Franz Beckenbauer's hit "Gute Freunde" was sung in between – the ideal way to get in the Christmas spirit with the FC Bayern family.
