Second match, second win – and second goal for Harry Kane in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The FC Bayern striker celebrated a 3-0 victory with England against Latvia on Monday night. Kane captained the Three Lions at London’s Wembley Stadium and scored the second goal in the 68th minute – his 71st strike in his 105th appearance for his country. Reece James (38’) and Eberechi Eze (76’) netted the other goals for the hosts.
Patience required for England

New coach Thomas Tuchel’s side initially struggled to break down the deep-lying minnows from Latvia. “We had to be patient,” described Kane after the final whistle. “We played against a team who had 11 men behind the ball and tried to make it difficult for us.” Individual moments of quality were needed – like James’ direct free kick for the opener and Declan Rice’s good work for the second goal. “Dec made the difference with that run and put a great ball across the six-yard box,” thanked Kane.
The Three Lions top Group K in World Cup qualifying with six points from the first two matches. Their next game is away to Andorra at the start of June.
