FC Bayern to wear special ‘Red against Racism’ jersey against St. Pauli

FC Bayern will mark the International Weeks against Racism and the DFL matchday campaign ‘Together! Stop Hate. Be a Team.’ by wearing a special jersey for their home game against FC St. Pauli at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Main sponsor Deutsche Telekom will take a back seat on the players' chests so that Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and their teammates can walk out sporting the slogan ‘Red against Racism’ from the FCB initiative for diversity and against discrimination of all kinds, which was founded five years ago in March. The visitors from Hamburg will also send out a visible signal and play in shirts bearing the St. Pauli campaign slogan ‘No place for racism’, which the Hamburg side launched in cooperation with their partner congstar. On the pitch, it's all about goals, points and winning - but off the pitch, the two clubs are united in their social message. The motto on this matchday in Munich is: ‘Two clubs - one stance’.

FC Bayern president Herbert Hainer: "With 'Red against Racism', we at FC Bayern regularly take a stand against all forms of discrimination and want to bring about a lasting debate on the topic of diversity. We’re delighted about the joint campaign with FC St. Pauli, because it’s important that we all work together to raise awareness of issues such as racism and diversity - regardless of which club we belong to. It's about a sense of perspective. There must be no place for exclusion either in sport or in our society."

FC Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: "We're delighted to be able to mark the DFL's 'Together! Stop Hate. Be a Team.' matchday campaign with the slogan of our club-wide initiative 'Red against Racism'. Huge thanks go to our partner Deutsche Telekom for this teamwork, which has an impact beyond the pitch. Matchday campaigns like this ensure visibility - and it's also important for us to take a stand all year round. We want to raise awareness of this together."

Warm-up shirts, captain's armband, corner flags & more

As in previous years, the German record champions will also be raising awareness of diversity all around the pitch with warm-up shirts, the captain's armband, corner flags, a centre-circle banner, LED pitchside boards, and mascot Berni with the slogan ‘Red against Racism’. As in previous years, the various campaigns are embedded in the DFL campaign ‘Together! Stop Hate. Be a team.’. The jerseys will be auctioned off afterwards and, as with the sale of ‘Red against Racism’ items in FC Bayern stores, (new this year: caps) the proceeds will go to organisations that campaign for diversity and against discrimination of all kinds.

Moreover, FC Bayern Women will dedicate their home game at the FC Bayern Campus against Leverkusen on Sunday to the leitmotif ‘Red against Racism’, and the FC Bayern basketball players will use their Euroleague matchday against Partizan Belgrade at the SAP Garden tonight to spread the message, as they did in their victory over Rostock last Saturday. The ‘Red Giants’ will also display the slogan on their shooting shirts until the end of the season.

In terms of content, as ‘Red against Racism’ also focuses on the issue of diversity, the club has also organised a workshop which will take place before the match at the Campus for the first time on Saturday together with FC St. Pauli. Members of both clubs are invited, and FCB president Hainer and St. Pauli president Oke Göttlich will also take part.

The ‘Red against Racism’ initiative was founded at FC Bayern in 2020 following racist incidents in German stadiums and the attack in Hanau with the aim of making a lasting commitment to diversity. Since then, numerous projects have been organised to combat discrimination of all kinds and to promote inclusion and a culture of remembrance. The leitmotif of the initiative is ‘Encounters’, because a sports club offers an environment in which people of all backgrounds can come together, overcome barriers and achieve something together.
