Bayern turn focus to last group match against Benfica

FC Bayern took up preparations for the last Club World Cup group match against Benfica in Charlotte (Tuesday at 21.00 CEST) on Sunday. After the 2-1 victory over Boca Juniors and a day off, head coach Vincent Kompany’s men worked out in Orlando on Sunday morning. Jamal Musiala took part and Minjae Kim completed parts of team training.

“We won’t calculate a lot, we’ll play to win,” Kompany said after the victory over Boca and qualification for the knockout stages. Instead of easing off, Bayern aim to turn in a good performance against Benfica to “go into the knockout stages with momentum,” said the FCB coach. Munich were fully focused at the training ground on Sunday. After warming up and completing passing drills, they practised match situations.

14th duel with Benfica

Bayern take on Benfica in a competitive match for the 14th time. The record favours Munich, who have never lost against the Portuguese record champions, winning ten and drawing three matches. If they extend their run, they will win their group and face the runners-up of Group D (Chelsea or Espérance Tunis). If Bayern finish runners-up, they will take on the winners of Group D, CR Flamengo.
