Following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Benfica Lisbon in the final group match, Bayern qualified as group second for the knock-out stages. Bayern's encounter with the Brazilian top club will take place on Sunday June 29 at 4 pm local time in the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Flamengo Rio De Janeiro made quite an impression at the Club World Cup with a strong start to the tournament. Following a convincing 2-0 win against Espérance Tunis, the team of head coach Filipe Luís added an unexpected 3-1 victory over Premier League outfit Chelsea. This win prematurely secured first place in their group D.

Prior to the tournament, the Brazilians had been able to secure the services of former Arsenal midfielder Jorginho. The most successful goal scorer of the season is Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who also contributed the first goal of the tournament for Flamengo, the 1-0 against Tunis. Another well-known figure in Flamengo's squad is defensive boss Danilo, formerly of Juventus Turin.
In the past, many famous footballers wore the Flamengo jersey, including Zico, Romário, Vinícius Júnior, and also FC Bayern legend Rafinha. It is only the second time in history that Bayern Munich are paired with a Brazilian team in a competitive match. In the Intercontinental Cup in 1976, the Reds successfully overcame Cruzeiro Bello Horizonte with a 2-0 win in Munich following a 0-0 draw in Brazil. It will be the first ever game between Bayern Munich and CR Flamengo.
