After an impressive summer pre-season with three wins from three friendlies, FC Bayern head to Stuttgart brimming with confidence. Something that should provide more than mere encouragement in this southern clash are the stats! The German record champions have won 14 of their last 15 competitive matches against VfB, the only exception being a 3-1 loss in the Bundesliga in May 2024. In total, the men from Munich have celebrated 84 wins in 128 competitive matches against their rivals meaning no other German club has won against an opponent as often as FCB against VfB since the Bundesliga was founded..
Bayern are record Supercup winners

However, the two teams have never met in the Supercup. This is despite the fact that FC Bayern are the record participants and record winners of the competition with 17 appearances and ten wins. By contrast, VfB Stuttgart will be playing for the first official silverware of the 25/26 campaign for the second time in a row on Saturday: last season, Bayer Leverkusen won the league and cup double and lifted the Supercup by beating runners-up VfB 4-2 on penalties. The Stuttgart side's first-ever participation was the clash with Hannover 96 in the 1992/93 season - the champions prevailed 3-1 to win the only Supercup in the club's history to date.
Battle of the top attacks
In the Bundesliga, FC Bayern had the most penalty area situations per game last season (38.3), with VfB Stuttgart just behind them with the second most (29.7). Bayern striker Harry Kane's tally of 26 goals also saw him crowned the league's top scorer for the second time in a row (2023/24 season: 36 goals). The Englishman is the first player ever to win the top scorer cannon in each of his first two Bundesliga seasons. He also loves playing against VfB: FC Augsburg are the only side he's scored more times against (seven) than Stuttgart (six).
However, in Nick Woltemade, VfB also have a lethal striker of their own: The Germany international scored in each of his five cup games for Stuttgart last season - something no VfB player had ever managed before and which also saw him crowned as the top scorer in the competition.

Coach with an FC Bayern past
The 4-2 cup win over Arminia Bielefeld last season ended an 18-year trophy drought for VfB after the 2007 Bundeliga win. If they win the Supercup, Sebastian Hoeneß, who coached at FC Bayern Campus from 2017 to 2020, will become the second coach after Christoph Daum to win silverware twice with the club in the top flight.
Will Neuer become a Supercup record holder?
Bayern captain Manuel Neuer has won numerous trophies during an outstanding career. Now he's also set to reach a milestone in the Supercup by making his 11th appearance in the competition on Saturday. Bayern legend Thomas Müller is the only player to have made 12 appearances. Should the Reds win their first trophy of the season, Neuer would join his former teammate as the record winner of the Supercup with eight victories.
