Both the Austrian Men’s and Women’s Footballer of the Year play for the German record champions: Konrad Laimer and Sarah Zadrazil won the vote conducted by the Austrian Press Agency (APA) among the 12 coaches of the Austrian Bundesliga clubs. The prestigious award is one of the most important accolades in Austrian football.
It’s a premiere for Konrad Laimer: FC Bayern’s midfielder has been named Footballer of the Year for the first time and follows in the footsteps of David Alaba, who has won the title ten times (eight as an FC Bayern player). After Alaba, Laimer is the second Bayern pro to win the award. The last time a Bayern player won the vote was 2021.
FC Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund: “We’re very glad Konrad Laimer has been named Austria’s Footballer of the Year. As his compatriot, I’m particularly happy about the award, especially as I’ve known and accompanied him for a long time. Both at FC Bayern and in the national team, Konny has been an absolute role model in terms of reliability, passion, commitment and a team spirit that inspires everyone. He was recently given the nickname ‘Zidane of the Alps’ – he definitely has a turbo in his boots if you ask me. FC Bayern is proud to have Austria’s Footballer of the Year in its ranks. David Alaba has won the award ten times in his career – let’s see if Konny can start a new streak.”

FC Bayern Women too have reason to celebrate: Sarah Zadrazil has been named Austria’s Women’s Footballer of the Year for 2025. The midfielder has helped shape the development of FCB Women in recent years and played a key role in the first ever double of cup and championship in 2025.
