FC Bayern once again raised awareness for the issue of inclusion at their 5-1 victory over Hoffenheim. Club partner Coca-Cola supports the German Amputee Football League (DAFL), and at the match in the Allianz Arena, FC Bayern Hilfe eV waived their usual cup deposit donations on that day in favour of athletes with disabilities. The amount, which Hilfe eV will supplement, will enable the athletes to participate in the Amputee Football World Cup in Costa Rica this summer and more. The initiative's motto was displayed prominently on the monitors at the Allianz Arena: ‘You can't amputate passion!
Inclusion is an integral part of our values.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, FC Bayern CEO
“At FC Bayern, we see ourselves not only as a top sports club, but also as a socially responsible institution,” said Jan-Christian Dreesen, explaining the campaign. “Inclusion is an integral part of our values. You can see that every matchday, for example, when our players present their names for people with hearing impairments during the line-ups.” Supporting the DAFL is “another clear sign for us that football belongs to everyone,” the FC Bayern CEO continued. “We want to create platforms, enable visibility and promote projects that have a real impact. Together with partners such as Coca-Cola, we can generate attention and inspire people far beyond the world of sport. Many thanks to everyone who is contributing with their donations.”
Before kick-off, Dreesen joined stadium presenter Stephan Lehmann on the pitch at the Allianz Arena to welcome Nicola Roos, Germany's only amputee women footballer, as well as one-armed goalkeeper Marvin Harscher, Christian Heintz (DAFL managing director), Florian Von Salzen (CCO of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners) and Marcus Rohde (CFO of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners).
The DAFL is the official league for footballers with arm or leg amputations in Germany. Players play on one leg with crutches (outfield players) or with one arm (goalkeepers). It enables performance-oriented sport, promotes inclusion and creates visibility for amputee athletes in league competitions and with the Germany national team. “Our mission is to make sport accessible to everyone, boost self-confidence and break down social barriers,” said Heintz. “We show that competitive sport and inclusion are not a contradiction. At the same time, we create role models and perspectives for people who want to live actively and independently again after an amputation.”
Founded over 20 years ago, FC Bayern Hilfe eV is led by former president Karl Hopfner, honorary president Uli Hoeneß and long-standing CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. As no administrative apparatus is required, every cent goes directly to those in need. At matches at the Allianz Arena, visitors always have the opportunity to donate their cup deposit to FC Bayern Hilfe eV by returning their cups to the appropriate boxes next to the kiosks.
