Canada have opened their World Cup campaign, but the joint hosts were undoubtedly hoping for a win that ultimately proved elusive. In their opening match in Toronto, the Canadians were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnia and Herzegovina, a result that fairly reflected the balance of play. Substitute Cyle Larin salvaged a point a quarter of an hour before the final whistle when he cancelled out Jovo Lukic’s early opener for the Bosnians, who had knocked out Italy in the play-offs en route to the finals. Bayern’s Alphonso Davies did not feature for Canada due to a muscle injury. Following their goalless tournaments in 1986 and 2022, Canada at least managed to collect the very first World Cup point in their history. The Canadians’ campaign continues injust under a week, when they face Qatar next Friday at midnight (CEST).
