Vincent Kompany interview: 'We're a team who play without fear'
FC Bayern’s Audi Summer Tour also left a lasting impression on head coach Vincent Kompany. During the trip, the 40-year-old visited a tangerine farm on Jeju and tried traditional snacks and juices. “It’s a really special place,” Kompany told the owners as he presented them with a signed Bayern shirt to thank them for their hospitality.
In an interview with fcbayern.com during the visit to the tangarine farm, Kompany spoke of a special connection to South Korea: “We're also somehow always at home here. The feeling that we're coming back is just very nice for us.” Two years ago, at the start of his tenure as FCB coach, the Belgian travelled to Seoul for his first Audi Summer Tour with the German record champions.
On that occasion, the team claimed a 2-1 friendly win over Tottenham Hotspur, which Kompany looks back on as an important step. “That was a first moment of success for us as a team,” he reflected. “It was a new season, a new coach, a new team – and it came together very well in that match. We’ve had that energy since that match.” Maintaining that energy at all times is essential, as the Bayern boss explained. “We’re a team who play without fear – and I love that.”

Kompany also looked ahead to the new campaign. “We're looking forward now and we have to do it all over again,” he said. “Not in terms of the principles, but we have to have that feeling again that we’re hungry and must show everything again. And we have that. The important thing now is everything's done right, so that we can already perform – in the Supercup and then in the Bundesliga, in Europe and in the cup. You need full focus for that. It can always be your best season – and that must be the mentality,” he concluded.
