Final tough test: FC Bayern away to Grasshoppers in Zurich

Ahead of the first competitive match of the new season on Saturday, the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup at cup winners VfB Stuttgart, FC Bayern face one final tough pre-season test. The friendly at Grasshopper Club Zürich in the Letzigrund stadium kicks off at 18:00 CEST on Tuesday, 12 August. Head coach Vincent Kompany's side will be looking to apply some finishing touches against the venerable Swiss club.

Following victories over Lyon (2-1) and Tottenham Hotspur (4-0) in the Telekom Cup, both at the Allianz Arena, the reigning German champions now face their first away test after an exhausting summer pre-season schedule. In the Letzigrund Stadium, which is already sold out, they face Grasshoppers, the 27-time Swiss champions and 19-time Swiss Cup winners. Lovro Zvonarek and Jonathan Asp Jensen are currently supporting the team from Zurich on loan from FC Bayern.

On Saturday, the German record champions then play their first competitive match of the new season: the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup at VfB Stuttgart. The team have been preparing for this for weeks now and, in addition to working on the basics like fitness, they're now also well-drilled in terms of their game and tactics. In two open training sessions during the Bavarian school summer holidays, around 2,500 fans were able to witness FC Bayern's impressive form for themselves.

The opponents: Grasshopper Club Zürich

Legend Ottmar Hitzfeld coached Grasshoppers from 1988 to 1991 and led the side to two league titles, three cup wins and a Supercup victory. Since 1 July this year, the team, who play their home games at Letzigrund Stadium have been coached by Gerald Scheiblehner. The Swiss Super League is already in full swing - after three matchdays, Grasshoppers are third-bottom in the table with one point. The Zurich side finished last season in the same position and are now looking to prove what they're capable of against FC Bayern.
