It was less so the performances but more the results that weren’t to Vincent Kompany’s liking over the past week, as very early goals away at both Augsburg (2-2) and Viking (3-3) ultimately cost Bayern points in the Bundesliga and Champions League respectively. It means Bayern return home for Saturday evening’s match looking to set the record straight. Kompany believes his players have been “sharp” and “motivated” following those setbacks. “We’ve had 50 shots on goals in the last two games. We’ve done a lot of things well collectively. If we do a few things better, then we’re not far from the very best version of ourselves,” he explained at Friday’s press conference.

We know about Leipzig’s strengths. You can see they’ve made a few changes. That’s helped the team. They’re coming here with confidence.

Vincent Kompany

And Bayern will need to be their best over the coming games, as they follow the Leipzig encounter with matches against English Premier League champions Arsenal and current Bundesliga leaders Freiburg. “We’re getting to those weeks where you can get excited about every game, where we can test ourselves against the best. That does something to a team. Our foundation is lots of energy and hard running. We’ve had that foundation. We’ve been playing. The guys to go the limit in every training session,” Kompany continued. It’s therefore only the results that haven’t been right at the start of this busy autumn period. “We’re at home. We want to attack. We’re hungry for it,” the boss concluded.

Bayern team news

Kompany remains without Jamal Musiala following his hamstring injury. He will also have to wait and see on the fitness of Manuel Neuer after his foot issue during the week. However, Aleksandar Pavlović is likely to return to the fold after he missed the Viking game.

Opponent: RB Leipzig

In contrast, Leipzig have returned from the long international break in winning form, following their 6-0 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. Both those results were at home. Things have been much more of a struggle on their travels, with Leipzig losing all their away games this season except the first round of the DFB Cup at Eintracht Trier in August.

It’s always special to go back to Munich, but we’re going to Munich to win.

Martín Demichelis (RB Leipzig coach)

That isn’t hasn’t impacted Leipzig’s confidence, though. “It won’t be easy, but we’ve got two wins in a row and will try to have a good game,” said Martín Demichelis of Saturday’s trip to Munich. “We have nothing to lose but a lot to gain. We want to play our way with conviction. We’re going into the game with a good feeling and good energy.”

Leipzig team news

There are no new fitness concerns for Leipzig coming into this game. Christoph Baumgartner is back in training after his hamstring injury but likely won’t feature on Saturday. Marc Guiu (muscular) and Assan Ouédraogo (shoulder) remain sidelined.
