Will Bayern’s home form be key against RB Leipzig?

After back-to-back away draws at Augsburg and Viking, Bayern return to the Allianz Arena on Saturday as they host RB Leipzig on Matchday 6 in the Bundesliga. The Bavarians boast a 14-game unbeaten run on home turf (W12, D2) and have been particularly prolific in front of goal, hitting 12 in two Bundesliga outings and also beating Bodø/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League. Only Eintracht Frankfurt in 1976/77 have ever scored more from their first two home fixtures of a Bundesliga season (13).

Leipzig contrasts

Leipzig have also enjoyed their home comforts this season, picking up all nine points in the league and scoring 14 of their 15 goals at the Red Bull Arena. Both away fixtures have ended in defeat, meaning they have lost their last four Bundesliga games on the road. Only bottom side Borussia Mönchengladbach are on an equally long losing run away from home. Leipzig’s trip to Munich in the league last season ended in their heaviest top-flight defeat of 6-0.

Neuer record and Kane milestone

Manuel Neuer has never lost in 14 competitive appearances against Leipzig. Should he feature in Saturday’s game, he will become the oldest player ever to play for Bayern in the Bundesliga at 40 years and 204 days, surpassing Bernd Dreher’s record by six days from when he last played in goal against Mainz on 19 May 2007.

The game could also be a notable one for Harry Kane, as the England captain is in line to make his 100th Bundesliga appearance. His haul of 101 goals is already the most any player has had after a century of games in Germany’s top flight. He also has a good record against Leipzig with seven goals in five Bundesliga encounters.
