Bayern fell to a second league defeat in a row for the first time in over 18 months after a set-play goal separated the sides in Hannover.
The 49,000 full house at the AWD Arena saw Hungary international Szabolcs Huszti fire the home side in front with a fine direct free-kick midway through the first half, and although the Bavarians laid siege to the Hannover goal for the whole of the second period, the men from Lower Saxony clung on to record a first home win over Bayern in 20 years, and end the Bavarians’ run of six away matches without defeat.
The result sees Bayern slip to ninth in the Bundesliga standings on eight points from six matches, five points off new leaders Hamburg and three behind Dortmund in fifth, the lowest of the European qualifying positions.
Four changes for FCB
With Olympique Lyon due up on Tuesday and no fewer than 17 games to go before Christmas, Bayern boss Jürgen Klinsmann promised plenty of squad rotation over the coming weeks. The champions duly showed four changes to the team which beat Nürnberg in the Cup last Wednesday.
