The first of Bayern’s four post-season friendlies at the end of the 2008-9 campaign will go down in history as the water fight of Kaufbeuren. After kick-off was delayed by thunder, lightning, gale-force gusts and torrential rain, the men from Munich rewarded an 8,000 crowd for hanging on in there with goals galore.

In a gentle-paced encounter with district league side SpVgg Kaufbeuren, the home club of 60s FCB star “Bulle” Roth, the Bundesliga runners-up recorded a routine 11-0 victory.

The arrival of the Bayern team bus coincided with a thunderous downpour in the Allgäu region, as the heavens opened an hour before the scheduled kick-off. A cancellation looked a possibility for a time, but home officials and the FCB party ultimately opted to delay kick-off by 20 minutes.
