The FC Bayern Women are planning to participate in ‘The Women’s Cup’ from 15 to 22 August in Louisville, USA – provided that the coronavirus developments at that point make the journey safe. Along with Bayern, hosts Racing Louisville, the Chicago Red Stars and Paris Saint-Germain are due to play in the tournament.
“Women’s football is very popular in the USA and is marketed very professionally there,” said FC Bayern Women sporting director Bianca Rech. “We’re pleased that FC Bayern have the opportunity to present themselves in this market, as long as the pandemic allows, in the summer. The games in Louisville will also be a valuable experience for us as part of our pre-season preparations.”
“FC Bayern have an extremely strong fan base in the USA, which is constantly growing,” commented board member for internationalisation and strategy Jörg Wacker. “Jens Scheuer’s team is an important part of our ‘World’s Biggest Sports Family’. We’d be very pleased if our women’s team, which is enjoying such success at the moment, got the chance to showcase themselves in the States.”
FCB Women will take on PSG in the semi-finals on 18 August, with the third-placed play-off and final against Louisville or Chicago both taking place on 21 August. The games will be held at the Lynn Family Stadium, which opened in 2020 and holds 15,000 spectators. The allowed stadium capacity for ‘The Women’s Cup’ will depend on state regulations at the time and will comply with a strict hygiene plan. The USA is at an advanced stage in its vaccination programme.
