FC Bayern have recruited Sofia Jakobsson from Real Madrid for the new season. The 31-year attacker joins on a free transfer and brings a wealth of international experience to the FC Bayern Campus. Last season the Swede scored eight goals for Las Blancas, although they lost out to Barcelona in the Spanish league. Jakobsson has played over 100 international matches for her country.

“First and foremost, I am very happy to be able to play for FC Bayern,” said the powerful attacker. “For me it’s very important to be in good surroundings, in which I can keep developing and win major trophies. I am looking forward to a new chapter with FC Bayern, in which we’ll be doing everything we can to stay at the top in the German league.”

Chelsea, Montpellier, Real Madrid
Jakobsson was born on 23 April 1990 in Örnsköldsvik and started her football career at the age of just six with Hägglunds IOFK in Sweden. After various stations in her home country and Russia, the then 23-year-old moved to Chelsea FC Women in 2013. After a brief spell in London, she got her first experience in Germany at BV Cloppenburg before moving to Montpellier HSC in France, where she scored 51 goals in 93 appearances. In 2019, the winger signed for Real Madrid, and it’s from there that she’s now found her way to Munich. Her achievements for the Swedish national team – including third place at the 2011 and 2019 World Cups and the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio – are also evidence of her valuable experience.
Cultured and versatile
Head coach Jens Scheuer has high hopes for his new signing and is pleased to add another attacking option to the Bayern Women side. “Sofia has played at the highest international level for a long time. We’re glad that she wants to take on another new challenge and has found this in Munich. We’re very enthused by her technical qualities. She has great dynamism and pace, and can play in different positions in attack – mostly out wide, but can also operate as a centre-forward,” said Scheuer.
