FC Bayern Women are kicking off the new year with another contract extension as defender and Germany international Carolin Simon has put pen to paper on a deal till 2024.
“Totally identify with the club”
Since joining Bayern from Lyon in 2019, Simon has already extended her contract twice. Both sides are looking forward to the continued collaboration: “Bayern is the coolest club for me. I feel absolutely great here and can totally identify with the club. The team is great, so I’m just delighted,“ the 30-year-old said. Head coach Alexander Straus is also aware of the importance of his defender: “I’m very happy she’s staying. She’s had a fantastic season so far. I like working with players like Caro, who on one hand have plenty of experience but on the other also want to continue to develop. We believe that she’ll be even better next year than she is now.”
Title winner and key player
Simon was part of the FCB team that won the Bundesliga in 2021 and has so far made 94 competitive appearances in Munich. The No.30 has continuously developed during her time at the club: “I’ve become more mature as a player in recent years, a bit more established. I know my role on the pitch and the importance I have for the team. I just try to help the team all over again every week.”
“Want more titles”
She has once again found herself in new coach Straus’s system this season, and the Norwegian is aware of the defender’s strengths: “She has a fantastic left foot. She’s very good in our attacking play, has lots of assists and also scored some important goals this season. She’s creative and remains calm in stressful situations. She’s a very good fit for how we want to play.”
Simon has also set herself a goal for her career: “As long as I play, I want to win a few more titles, and ideally with Bayern.”
