FCB Women in inter-squad friendly: 'Everyone's in the mood'

FC Bayern Women played an inter-squad friendly on the fourth and final day of the winter training camp in Doha. In an 11-a-side game consisting of two halves of 30 minutes, the Munich girls tested the processes and patterns they’ve been practising in the last few days.

High quality

After hard work during the sessions in the gym and on the pitch, the execution was put to the test in the internal match. Head coach Alexander Straus was pleased afterwards: “It was very good and very intensive. The players were happy to compete against each other and the training game was really high quality. They tried to put into practice what we’ve been working on in the last few days. It’s been four arduous days, so you could see at the end that they were a bit tired. The team like playing against each other internally, so they each had good opponents.”

“Always give everything”

The tiredness didn’t stop the players from giving everything on the pitch one more time. It was to and fro between the teams over the 60 minutes, until captain Lina Magull converted a penalty in the last minute to earn her group a 1-0 win. Goalkeeper Mala Grohs, who was helpless to stop the only goal of the game, was nevertheless satisfied: “The internal game has come at the end of the week, so obviously we’re all a bit worn out, but we pulled through really well again. We implemented and consolidated a few tactical things. It’s always hard when you play against each other because both teams always give everything and everyone’s in the mood.”

Travelling home on Saturday evening

Following the final session, recovery is the name of the game before the squad fly back to Munich on Saturday evening. The inter-squad friendly was a strong final session, with which the players were able to round off the training camp with a good feeling. Franziska Kett summarised it: “We executed what we’ve practised in training well. We pressed really well, but of course we’re all a bit wiped out after the last few days and are looking forward to two days off.”

As well as the intensive sessions, FCB Women have also been having fun:
