FC Bayern have handed youth player Nike Herrmann a two-year contract. The 21-year-old joined the club at U17 level in 2017 and has since progressed through the youth teams. Herrmann will regularly train with the first team as of this summer.
Youth promotion by FC Bayern Women
Herrmann’s progress has been excellent as she’s grown with the challenges faced from U17 to U20 level. The signing of her first contract was therefore a proud moment for the midfielder and those in charge at FC Bayern Women. Youth coordinator Nathalie Bischof said: “Nike is the ideal example for a player that’s been developed by FC Bayern. She shows that you can make your way with discipline and hard work.”
Herrmann believes being trained at the Campus has been an advantage for her: “Various coaches have supported me in different points in my development over the years and helped build up my strengths in the centre.” The trained physiotherapist has made 38 appearances in the second division since 2019 and is now ready for what’s to come. “I’ve had a big personal advancement in the last year in terms of my play, technique and the mental side of things. Now it’s time to continue building my abilities and improve in every aspect.” The 21-year-old will continue along that path at Bayern in Munich. “I feel honoured to be taking the next steps at a club like Bayern. It was a quick decision for me thanks to the trusting relationship.”
“With lots of discipline and hard work”
There’s a lot of competition in the Bayern talent pool. The journey from the youth teams to the senior side is a long one. “Nike has used every training session 100 percent to improve. Her start to life with the U20s wasn’t easy, but her drive has seen her continuously develop as a leading player,” said Bischof. There’s no question for Herrmann of resting on her laurels, with the next steps clear for her: “I want to always continue to develop, learn from the best and gain as much experience as possible. I’ve finished my three-year qualification as a physio and can now focus fully on sport in the future.”
