FC Bayern Women have completed the signing of goalkeeper Anna Wellmann from Turbine Potsdam. The 28-year-old was previously under contract in Munich from 2016 to 2019 and has committed until 2026. "I was very pleased to get the offer and it was a fairly easy decision for me," explained Wellmann. "When an offer comes from FC Bayern, you don't turn it down. I'm just really keen to get to know the team and am looking forward to what's ahead."
Return to Bayern
After two-year spells at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Turbine Potsdam, Wellmann is returning to FCB for the 2023/24 season. Bianca Rech, head of the FCB women's department, is delighted about the new recruit: "She brings a lot of experience and is also at a certain age where she can help our goalkeeping team. That was very important to us as we have two very young goalkeepers in Mala Grohs and Cecilía Rúnarsdóttir. Anna can be a role model for the girls and will help to empower them. We think that she'll be on hand for them with help and advice."
Bundesliga experience
Following her move to Leverkusen, Wellmann made her Bundesliga debut in 2019 and has gone on to make 32 top-flight appearances. She also reached the 2022 DFB Cup final with Turbine. "In the four years that I've been away, I've developed into a Bundesliga goalkeeper," she said. "At Potsdam I became a leader and I've learned with age that I can give a team backing with my calmness from the back."
Ready for preseason
FC Bayern and Anna Wellmann are looking forward to working together again at the FC Bayern Campus. "She knows the structures, she knows the club and therefore her return to the FC Bayern family is a great thing for all of us," added Rech. The 28-year-old is ready to get down to work: "When you see the awesome facilities here, you immediately want to get going again."
