Great news for FC Bayern Women! Two young talents from the Munich ranks have received gold in this year's Fritz Walter Medal. Franziska Kett has been recognised in the U19 category, while the U17 prize goes to Alara Şehitler. The Fritz Walter Medal has been awarded to the best young men's and women's footballers in Germany since 2005.
Euro runners-up
The Bayern duo reached the final of this year's European Under-19 Championship in Belgium with the German national team, and were both included in the Team of the Tournament. Eighteen-year-old Kett has been part of the first-team squad since last season and has already racked up two goals in 23 competitive appearances for FCB. Şehitler moved to Bavaria this summer and is the youngest player in head coach Alexander Straus' team at 16.
Rech: We're very proud
Bianca Rech, head of women's football at FC Bayern Munich: "We're very proud about the recognition of our players. Franzi has undergone a great development in the last few years and proved especially in her appearances in the 2022/23 season how much potential she has. Alara is already very far in her development at 16 and is showing in her first weeks at FC Bayern what quality she has. We're going to have a lot of joy with her. With both players we also need to say a big thank-you to their home clubs, SpVgg Grün-Weiß Deggendorf and FV Ravensburg, who have also played a signifcant role in the players' education."
