5 facts on UWCL away match against PSG

Following on from Sunday's 2-0 win against SV Werder Bremen in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga, FCB Women are back in UEFA Women's Champions League action on Thursday 23 November. Read on to find out why the clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 2 (kick-off: 18:45 CET) could be special for one player and what both teams did more than average in their first Champions League match.

1. Fifth encounter

Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain have faced off four times in the UWCL to date. In the 2016/17 season, FCB won 1-0 at home but lost 4-0 in France. Then in March 2022, in their first match at the Allianz Arena, the Munich girls lost 2-1 before a 2-2 draw in the French capital. Both clashes came in the quarter-finals, so the two teams are meeting in the group stage for the first time this season.

2. Goals from crosses?

On Matchday 1, it was raining crosses and corners for both Munich and Paris. Katharina Naschenweng and Co hit 19 crosses and corners, with only four teams delivering more balls into the box from wide areas. One of those was PSG, who registered the most with 25. However, Bayern were more accurate with theirs as 21 percent found a teammate, compared to 12 percent for the French capital club.

3. Eriksson’s good start to tournament

Magdalena Eriksson shone with a brilliant performance last week.

Magdalena Eriksson shone with a brilliant performance last week.

It's been a very successful week on a personal level for Magdalena Eriksson. The summer signing scored her first Bundesliga goal in the 2-0 win in Bremen having demonstrated her qualities in the opening Champions League game against Roma. The Sweden international won all her duels and tackles, as well as making nine clearances – more than any other player for Bayern or Paris Saint-Germain (against Ajax) on Matchday 1.

4. New stadium

The fixture against PSG will be held at Stade Jean-Bouin in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, and not at Parc des Princes. It will be the first time FCB Women have played at the stadium, which is normally home to three other clubs including rugby union team Stade Français and third-tier football side FC Versailles. The venue has a capacity of 19,900, making it the perfect arena for the Champions League match. Particularly with the noisy PSG fans, Bayern can look forward to a great atmosphere.

5. Lohmann on verge of 100th win

Made her 24th appearance in the UEFA Women's Champions League against Roma: Sydney Lohmann.

Made her 24th appearance in the UEFA Women's Champions League against Roma: Sydney Lohmann.

Sydney Lohmann has celebrated 99 wins with the FC Bayern Women first team up to now. One more will complete a century. Only Lina Magull (116 wins) is ahead of the 23-year-old in the current FCB squad. If Lohmann features against PSG, it would also be her 25th appearance in the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Get well soon, Ana Maria!
