FC Bayern Women have signed Linda Sembrant on loan from Juventus. The centre-back, who has 143 caps for Sweden, moves to Munich until the end of the current 2023/24 season.
Sembrant: “Can hardly wait”
“FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in Europe with an impressive history. I’m very excited to move to the club. The women have a great team with very good players. I obviously know Magdalena Eriksson very well since we’ve played together for the national team for many years. She told me a lot about the club and gave me a good feeling. The team and the department have made super progress, and I can hardly wait to join them,” said the 36-year-old. “My goal is to get used to the team and the new surroundings as quickly as possible, and the coach’s playing style, because we’ve got big goals. I’m really looking forward to being a part of the Bayern family.”
De Sá Fardilha: “Known for her leadership qualities”
Francisco De Sá Fardilha, FC Bayern Women technical director: “In the upcoming and very important phase of the current season, we had to face personnel bottlenecks in our defence. Whilst we’re doing everything we can to support our injured players and get them ready for action again, we also want to ensure that we can compete at the highest level in every game. We have therefore decided to sign Linda Sembrant and are delighted that the loan has materialised. Linda has all the strengths we were looking for. She is very experienced at the highest level, has an excellent understanding of the game and will also integrate well into our existing defence. She is very confident with the ball and is well known for her leadership qualities. We are convinced that she will help us both defensively and going forward.”
Three World Cup third-place finishes
Sembrant has been at Juventus since 2019 and has won the Italian league title three times as well as the Italian Cup and Super Cup several times. Prior to that, the defender played for Montpellier in the French first division for five years. With the Sweden national team, the Uppsala native has finished third at the World Cup three times in 2011, 2019 and 2023, and won silver at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Sembrant is Bayern’s second January signing:
