FC Bayern Women have appointed former player Moritz Volz as new assistant coach. The 40-year-old joins head coach Alexander Straus’s team as the replacement for Marco Knirsch, who left the club at the end of the year. Volz, a former player at Fulham, St. Pauli and more, has previously worked as assistant at RB Leipzig and Galatasaray.
Volz: “You can see potential with all the players”
“I had the opportunity during my pro licence coaching course last year to spend three-and-a-half weeks here and got to know the department, the coaching staff and the team. It was great fun and really advantageous for everyone. So, I’m pleased we now have the chance to continue working together. The training camp was perfect for my start as new assistant to get into the groove and get to know things better. It’s fun for me to work in a team, and especially here at Bayern Women everyone has the chance to bring their thoughts and ideas,” Volz said.
He continued: “It’s very interesting to work with the team. On the one hand, you see individual potential with every player, who you want to help develop. It’s exciting to find out together what we can achieve. On the other hand, there’s so much you can work on as a collective. We have a very good group dynamic and still haven’t reached the limit of our possibilities. The training camp here is also perfect to discuss things and then work on aspects together and with drive in the training sessions.”
