FC Bayern Women kicked off the new year in the Spanish sun as Alexander Straus’s team went to Alicante from 7 to 13 January to prepare for the second half of the season. Alongside intense training sessions and a friendly match, there were also plenty of smiles among the players. fcbayern.com rounds up the training camp.
Intense week of training
As well as daily training sessions on the pitch, there were also workout sessions in the gym with a focus on strength and endurance. In addition, the coaching staff looked at tactical aspects and finetuning strategies to try and optimise team coordination. The players also worked on their mental strengths and stress resistance during the camp to make sure they are ready for the challenges to come in the second half of the season.
“It was a full but good week. We worked on a lot of things, also away from the pitch. It’s all a process here that you need to work on continuously to grow and progress. We’ve started the year very well here,” said Straus in summary.
Away from the pitch, Giulia Gwinn, Pernille Harder and the squad spent their free time enjoying a team evening and other activities, in particular showing off their prowess on the padel tennis court.

Victory over Granada
To round off the week, Bayern took on Spanish side Granada in a friendly. Goals from captain Glódís Viggósdóttir (6’), Lea Schüller (35’), Jill Baijings (37’) and Harder (60’) brought a 4-0 victory. “We work hard on set pieces in training, so I’m pleased we scored two goals as a result and got the reward. But we also created the other two goals really well,” said Baijings after the game.
Bayern have important games coming up in the next weeks. Die Frauen return to action with a DFB Cup clash against Kickers Offenbach on 21 January. Three days later, they take on Roma away from home in the Champions League (24 January). The Bundesliga then gets back under way with a crunch game against Hoffenheim at the FC Bayern Campus on 27 January.
