FC Bayern Women receive Sepp Herberger Award

FC Bayern Women have been honoured by the DFB’s Sepp Herberger Foundation for their social commitment after the team visited Aichach Prison in January and sought dialogue with the inmates. "The award for FC Bayern Women's team today is representative of the club's decades of social commitment, which has often done good things and mostly not talked about it," said DFB president Bernd Neuendorf at the award ceremony in Berlin on Monday.

Karin Danner, FC Bayern Women’s long-serving general manager, accepted the award on behalf of the team while they played Werder Bremen at home game in Munich. Head of department Bianca Rech is delighted with the recognition and said of the visit to the prison: "We wanted to step out of our football bubble with the whole team and look far beyond the horizon. It's important for all of us to know what else is happening in society. The visit was a very emotional and formative experience for all of us." Defender Katharina Naschenweng added: "The conversations with the prisoners were very interesting and touching. It's always instructive to gain such insights and it makes you think differently about your own life and circumstances. We hope we were able to give something to the inmates with our visit.”
