FC Bayern Women have bolstered their defence for the second half of the season by securing the services of Michelle Ulbrich. The 28-year-old centre-back joins the defending German champions on loan from SV Werder Bremen until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Ulbrich: 'Didn't want to and couldn't turn down the offer'
"It feels good to hold the FC Bayern shirt in my hand and I already can't wait to wear it on the field," said Ulbrich. "The enquiry came as a surprise and wasn't expected. FC Bayern are a global club, they play in the Champions League and are in the quarter-finals of it. To be able to play in such a great team is a magnificent opportunity for me, which is why I didn't want to and couldn't turn down the offer."
Rech: 'We're confident she'll strengthen us'
Bianca Rech, FC Bayern Women director: "We're still in all competitions in the second half of the season and we wanted to add depth with a seasoned player. Michelle offers speed and physical presence, she's technically adept and her build-up play is very good. As well as that, she's a leader on the pitch and exudes a certain self-assurance. We're confident that she'll strengthen us for the second half of the season with very good input and quality."
Three Bundesliga promotions with Bremen
The 1.75-metre-tall centre-back began her football career at Bremen-based club BTS Neustadt, before she joined the Werder academy in 2011. Ulbrich made her debut for the SVW first team on 2 December 2012 in an away match at Holstein Kiel. The Bremen native has celebrated three promotions to the Bundesliga with the Green-Whites in 2015, 2017 and 2020.
