Alexander Straus to leave FC Bayern Women

Alexander Straus will leave his role as FC Bayern Women head coach at his own request at the end of the season to pursue a new challenge. FC Bayern accepted the request of the 49-year-old Norwegian, who has been the club's coach since the summer of 2022, and agreed to the early termination of his contract on 31 May 2025.

Max Eberl, FC Bayern board member for sport: “FC Bayern Women have been continuously developing at the highest level for many years, and Alexander Straus has made an invaluable contribution to this. After the Bundesliga titles in 2023 and 2024, he can now even become the first FCB Women's coach to win three league titles in a row at the end of the current season and therefore make history. He will say goodbye to Munich in style. We would like to thank Alexander Straus for his commitment and impetus, respect his desire for change and wish him all the best.”

Bianca Rech, FC Bayern director of women’s football: “We are very grateful to Alexander Straus for our time together. Alex was a blank slate when he joined us in the summer of 2022, and together we have written a unique success story. Three trophies in three years and currently the chance to win the FC Bayern Women’s first double speaks for itself. Together, we have taken women's football at FC Bayern to the next level. That was always Alex's big goal, and we have achieved it together. We remain deeply committed to Alex and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”

Alexander Straus: “My biggest goal was to leave the club in a better place than it was when I arrived. I believe we have reached that goal during the past three years. I knew from the start that it will be very hard and emotional when the day comes to leave a club that has become such a big part of my life. I'm very thankful and loved every single moment serving the club, the players, the staff and, of course, also the fans. I've always given my all for the club, but this also comes with challenges on a personal level. What we have achieved together has been great and could not be done without close relationships on and off the pitch. We will have the chance to say a final goodbye at a later date. For now, our full focus is on the things we want to achieve in the coming weeks. Let’s do this one more time together.”

Straus moved to Munich from SK Brann on 1 July 2022 and successfully continued the process of establishing FC Bayern Women at the top of women’s football in Germany. The club won the Bundesliga in 2023 and 2024, as well as the 2024 DFB Supercup in its first edition since 1997. Straus has twice led Bayern to the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals in 2023 and 2025, as well as the DFB Cup final on two occasions in 2024 and this season. Bayern are on course to win the women’s domestic double for the first time, while a third straight Bundesliga title would also be a historic first.

FC Bayern will make an announcement about Straus’ successor in due course.
