Germany through to quarters, first win for Stanway and England: How EURO Matchday 2 went from an FCB perspective

The second matchday of the Women's European Championship in Switzerland is complete! The German team of Lea SchüllerKlara Bühl and Co have booked their place in the quarter-finals with a game to spare thanks to a 2-1 win over Denmark. Julia Zigiotti Olme and Magdalena Eriksson of Sweden can also look forward to the quarter-finals after a 3-0 victory over Poland. The day before that, Tuva Hansen and Norway celebrated their progress to the knockout stages after beating Finland 2-1.

In contrast, four FCB players are already out of the tournament. Pernille Harder and Stine Ballisager were again unable to take anything from their meeting with Germany, nor were Poland and Natalia Padilla Bidas, who went down 3-0 against Sweden. In Group A, Glódís Viggósdóttir suffered a 2-0 defeat against hosts Switzerland with Iceland, meaning the FCB captain is also heading home.

Group B remains exciting after the second round of matches. After a 1-1 draw for Italy and Arianna Caruso against Portugal, the final group match against Spain will decide their fate. The same goes for holders England and Bayern midfielder Georgia Stanway. The Lionesses bounced back from their opening defeat to France with an emphatic 4-0 win over Netherlands and can therefore seal their place in the quarter-finals in the last group game against Wales. fcbayern.com provides you with a detailed overview of all the Matchday 2 encounters from a Munich perspective.
