From milestones to magic moments: FC Bayern Women's games at the Allianz Arena

Since FC Bayern Women made their first appearance at the Allianz Arena in March 2022, a new era has dawned in Munich's football cathedral: from the historic premiere against Paris Saint-Germain to Klara Bühl's emotional birthday goal, the season opener against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in front of a new record crowd to the thrilling 2-1 win over Manchester United a few weeks ago.

The reigning double winners are now set to make their eighth appearance in Fröttmaning. On Saturday (18:15 CEST), the Munich side host three-time Champions League winners Barcelona in the first leg of the semi-final of the premier club competition in European women’s football. fcbayern.com takes a look back at the German champions' previous highlights in the north of Munich.

A night to remember

FC Bayern Women 1-2 Paris Saint Germain | 22 March 2022

Sometimes it's not trophies or major victories that make history, but very special moments. 22 March 2022 was one such moment: when the Munich women walked out onto the pitch for their first home game at the Allianz Arena, it was far more than just a change of venue. It was a milestone – for the club, for women’s football, for the team’s visibility. 13,000 spectators had turned up to watch the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain – and they witnessed a special evening. The Munich side played courageously, hit the woodwork twice, but for a long time could not find a way past the strong PSG goalkeeper Barbora Votíková. Then came a moment of class: Klara Bühl converted a free-kick to make the final score 1–2. The result quickly faded into the background. What mattered was the message: women’s football belongs on the big stage.

FC Bayern Women 3–1 Barcelona | 7 December 2022

It was a gift – not just for Bühl, but for every FC Bayern Women fan: on 7 December 2022, the Allianz Arena once again became a glittering stage for the FCB women during their clash with Barcelona. In the fourth minute, the birthday girl laid down an early marker, putting the Munich side ahead with a pinpoint strike and sparking jubilation amongst the 24,000 spectators. The atmosphere was exhilarating, the performance impressive. Lina Magull responded in fine style – not only as a goalscorer, but as a tireless driving force and playmaker, setting up Lea Schüller with a sublime cross in the second half to make it 3-1. A goal that crowned the prestigious victory over the Catalans. The Bayern women performed with emotion, attacking intent and self-belief that evening. It was more than a victory; it was a powerful statement that left us wanting more.

A hard-fought victory under floodlights

FC Bayern Women 1–0 Arsenal | 21 March 2023

Another Champions League quarter-final, once again on the big stage, the Allianz Arena. In March 2023, FC Bayern Women hosted Arsenal at the stadium for the third time in a year. 20,000 fans turned up to support their team – and they were not disappointed. Right from the start, Alexander Straus’ side put the visitors from London under pressure, linking up confidently and playing with great determination. But former Bayern player Manuela Zinsberger kept her side in the game for a long time. It took until the 39th minute to break the deadlock: a pinpoint cross found Lea Schüller, who rose high and headed the ball into the net to make it 1–0. The second half called for strong nerves: Arsenal upped the pressure, but the Munich side held firm, fought with passion and defended with everything they had. Goalkeeper Mala Grohs kept Bayern in the game with some superb saves to shut out the Londoners. In the end, it was a narrow but deserved victory.

First Bundesliga match against Frankfurt

FC Bayern Women 0–0 Eintracht Frankfurt | 14 October 2023

In October 2023, the Munich women wrote another chapter in their history when they played their first ever Bundesliga match at the Allianz Arena in front of 19,000 spectators, setting the Bundesliga attendance record for a home game at that time. Bayern controlled the match against Frankfurt for long periods. Confident in possession and with great tactical intelligence, they dictated the play but despite numerous chances could not find a way past Frankfurt’s brilliant goalkeeper Stina Johannes. As a result, an intense match full of drama and fighting spirit ended goalless. However, the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena was, once again, exceptional.

Record attendance for Bundesliga opening win

FC Bayern Women 2–0 Bayer 04 Leverkusen | 6 September 2025

The night of 6 September was one that will live long in the memory. When the attendance figure was announced at the Allianz Arena, a rapturous cheer erupted, the likes of which women’s football in Germany had rarely experienced before: 57,762 fans had turned up to watch the Bundesliga opener between FC Bayern Women and Bayer 04 Leverkusen – a new record in German women’s club football.

The match itself called for patience. Leverkusen defended tightly, whilst Bayern spent a long time searching for an opening. But then came the moment everything had been building towards: in the 76th minute, a corner from Klara Bühl sailed into the penalty area, and Vanessa Gilles rose to head home. 1–0! Just 60 seconds later, Bühl herself raised the roof of the stadium. 2–0, the relief was palpable! What remained was more than just a perfect start to the new Bundesliga season. It was an evening full of emotion, passion and a sense of optimism. An opening match that showed just how much women’s football is at home in Munich.

A stunning victory over the defending champions

FC Bayern Women 3–2 Arsenal | 12 November 2025

Under the floodlights and in front of thousands of fans cheering every touch of the ball, FC Bayern Women wrote one of those stories against Arsenal that will be talked about for a long time to come. This was the big stage, and the emotions were bigger still. Arsenal struck early on and before you knew it, the scoreboard displayed 2-0 for the visitors. What followed was a comeback the likes of which this stadium has rarely seen: goals from Alara and Pernille Harder paved the way, before Glódís Viggósdóttir capped off the evening with the winner. In front of a huge crowd – 15,407 spectators – every moment, every tackle, every sprint vibrated with excitement and carried the FCB women to this resounding success.

Magic moments in the quarter-final

FC Bayern Women 2–1 Manchester United | 1 April 2026

This most recent performance capped off of a run of special nights: another comeback win against Manchester United to seal their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League. As the final whistle echoed across the Allianz Arena, a real buzz went through the stadium. 25,000 fans had spurred the FC Bayern women on and were rewarded for their faith. United had struck first, the scoreboard showing a sobering 1-0 for the visitors, but instead of faltering, Bayern drew energy from the atmosphere in the stadium. Then came the three minutes that turned everything around: first it was Glódís Viggósdóttir who stabbed the ball over the line to equalise. Shortly afterwards, Linda Dallmann provided the emotional climax with a clinical volley that sealed the 2-1 win and caused a mass celebration to break out in the Arena.

FC Bayern Women return to the Allianz Arena on Saturday and can look forward to another evening of football magic. José Barcala's side face none other than Barcelona in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League. An encounter that evokes both grandeur and goosebumps.
