On 14 May, FC Bayern Women and VfL Wolfsburg face off in the DFB Cup final (kick-off 16:00 CEST) – a match-up that has long been synonymous with top-class football and memorable moments in women’s football in Germany. When the double winners take on the cup specialists from Lower Saxony, it won't just be two top teams going head-to-head, but also several players who have previously played for both clubs.
fcbayern.com takes a look at ten of them who have turned out for both FC Bayern Women and VfL Wolfsburg, thereby writing a special chapter in the history of this match-up.
Lina Magull

Lina Magull, who currently plays for Inter Milan, began her senior career as a young talent at Gütersloh before moving to Wolfsburg. Although she regularly featured in the starting XI over three seasons, she was unable to fully make her mark against VfL’s established players. As a result, the midfield playmaker moved to SC Freiburg in 2015, where she established herself as a key player in the Bundesliga. The next step in her career came when she joined FC Bayern in 2018. In Munich, she quickly became a mainstay of the team, was appointed captain, and in the following years celebrated three Bundesliga titles (2020/21, 2022/23, 2023/24).
Kathrin Hendrich

Kathrin Hendrich has been a stalwart of German women’s football for more than ten years now. In her first of four seasons with 1. FFC Frankfurt, the Belgium-born back-line boss won the Champions League (2014/15). In 2018, she moved to FC Bayern, and two years later the 81-time international joined VfL Wolfsburg, with whom she won the DFB Cup four times (2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24) and the Bundesliga in the 2021/22 season. Since the summer of this year, Hendrich has been plying her trade with the Chicago Red Stars in the USA.
Lena Oberdorf

Lena Oberdorf made her Bundesliga debut for SGS Essen at the tender age of 16 years. Now 24, she's already made over 150 appearances at senior level, having joined VfL Wolfsburg after two seasons, which included making her international debut. With the Lower Saxony side, she won the DFB Cup four times in a row (2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24) and the Bundesliga once (2021/22). In the summer of 2024, the 2022 European Championship finalist made the move to FC Bayern.
Jill Roord

In 2017, Dutch-born Jill Roord joined FC Bayern as a promising young talent from her hometown club, Twente Enschede. During her time in the Bavarian capital, her strong performances saw her establish herself as a first-team regular, and she also made her debut for her country’s national team. After two seasons, the international moved to north London to join Arsenal. Following two years in England, the 2019 World Cup runner-up returned to Germany. In her very first season at VfL Wolfsburg, the attacking player celebrated the double of league title and DFB Cup (2021/22). After another cup victory in the 2022/23 season, the 2017 European champion once again left for England, this time to Manchester City. Last summer, she came full circle when she returned to her homeland and Twente Enschede.
Pernille Harder

Pernille Harder has been leading the line for FC Bayern since the summer of 2023 and in that time has become an indispensable part of the Munich side’s attack. In January 2017, the Denmark captain arrived in Germany for the first time from Swedish top-flight side Linköpings FC. During her three and a half years at VfL Wolfsburg, she developed into a world-class player and played a key role in winning four domestic doubles (2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20). Following that, a spell in England saw her also win the double of league title and FA Cup there in three seasons with Chelsea (2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23). Since joining FC Bayern, her trophy haul has already grown by another three league titles (2023/24, 2024/25, 2025/26). Harder has also won the DFB Cup (2024/25) and two DFB Supercups (2024/25, 2025/26) with the Munich side to date. On Thursday, the plan is for another trophy to be added to her collection.
Marina Hegering

Marina Hegering was a mainstay in the German national team’s defence for many years. In her very first senior season, the Bocholt-born player, then aged 18, helped FCR 2001 Duisburg win the Champions League (2008/09). In the summer of 2020, Hegering – who is nicknamed “Maschina” due to her robust playing style – moved to FC Bayern after six years in Leverkusen and three terms in Essen. She won the Bundesliga with the Munich side in the 2020/21 season and then moved to VfL Wolfsburg, where she led the team onto the pitch as their defensive boss and secured the DFB Cup twice in three years (2022/23, 2023/24), before joining Köln last year.
Katharina Baunach

Between 2006 and 2017, Katharina Baunach was a key figure at FC Bayern. The two-time Germany international had arrived in Munich as a young talent from SV 67 Weinberg and quickly established herself as a key pillar of the team. As early as the 2008/09 season, she played a decisive role in the team finishing as runners-up. In 2012, she was part of the first DFB Cup-winning side in the club’s history. It was also the first major silverware of her career, and she went on to celebrate the Bundesliga title with the Munich side in 2014/15 and 2015/16. In 2017, Baunach joined VfL Wolfsburg. During her two seasons with the Lower Saxony side, she won the double of the league title and the DFB Cup (2017/18, 2018/19). Her final spell as a professional player saw her move to England in 2019/20, where she played for West Ham Unite, before retiring from the game.
Kristin Demann

Early in her career, former Germany international Kristin Demann won two Bundesliga titles with Turbine Potsdam (2010/11, 2011/12). She was at TSG Hoffenheim from 2013 to 2017 then made the move to FC Bayern Women, for whom she played from 2017 to 2022. In the 2020/21 season, she won the third league title of her career. Following a brief six-month spell at 1. FC Köln, she moved to VfL Wolfsburg in July 2022. There, the experienced defender won the DFB Cup twice in three years (2022/23, 2023/24), before bringing her playing career to an end last summer.
Fridolina Rolfö

Sweden international Fridolina Rolfö also has a history with Munich and Wolfsburg. Like Pernille Harder, the fleet-footed left-winger made the move from Linköpings to the Bundesliga in January 2017. After two and a half years as a key attacking player at FC Bayern, Rolfö – who was born in Kungsbacka in Sweden – opted for a move within the league to VfL Wolfsburg. In her first season with the Lower Saxony side, she won the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup (2019/20). A year and another cup victory later, she took up the challenge at Barcelona in 2021, where she celebrated two Champions League titles (2022/23, 2023/24) and four league titles (2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25). The 32-year-old moved to Manchester United at the start of this season.
Lineth Beerensteyn

Fresh from winning the European Championship, Lineth Beerensteyn joined FC Bayern Women from Twente Enschede in 2017. The Netherlands international spent five years playing in red and white; she also celebrated her first domestic silverware with the 2020/21 Bundesliga title. A year later, she moved to Italy to join Juventus. After two seasons with the Bianconeri, she returned to Germany to join VfL Wolfsburg. In her maiden season, her haul of 16 goals made her joint top scorer in the Women’s Bundesliga alongside Hoffenheim’s Selina Cerci. The 29-year-old has scored nine times in the 2025/26 league campaign to date.
