Tradition and team spirit: FCB Women discover the art of sushi preparation

To round off the Allianz Women’s Tour, FC Bayern Women once again immersed themselves in Japanese culture. At Allianz’s invitation, the Munich side were not only treated to culinary delights by renowned sushi expert Yuki Chidui, but were also given the chance to step behind the counter themselves and try their hand at the delicate art of sushi preparation. The players experienced first-hand the precision, patience and dedication required to create one of Japan’s most famous dishes.

The fact that Chidui welcomed her guests in person made the visit something truly special. She's one of the few female sushi experts working in Japan. In a craft that is still traditionally dominated by men in Japan, she's made a name for herself through her skill and passion, and is also highly regarded internationally. In her restaurant, she combines classic sushi-making techniques with a modern approach and aims to make Japanese culinary culture accessible to everyone.

With a steady hand, plenty of patience and a healthy dose of curiosity, the Munich women eventually crafted their own sushi creations. Chidui explained the individual steps, offered tips on the correct technique and demonstrated just how important even the smallest details are during preparation. Through focused movements, curious questions and plenty of shared laughter, a special team experience quickly developed, during which the players not only learnt new skills but also gained an authentic insight into Japanese culture.

For FC Bayern Women, the visit marked an exciting conclusion to their Allianz Women’s Tour to Momoko Tanikawa’s home country. After many memorable moments both on and off the pitch, the trip concluded with an evening that brought together cuisine, hospitality and cultural exchange in a special way. It was an alltogether perfect way to end the trip that is sure to remain in the Munich women’s memories for a long time to come.
