FC Bayern Women's league-phase opponents in UEFA Women's Champions League

FC Bayern Women learned their six opponents for the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League at Friday's draw. Last season’s semi-finalists will face Barcelona (H), Paris Saint-Germain (A), Real Madrid (H), Benfica (A), Manchester City (H), Austria Vienna (A).

The fixture list and dates will be announced on Saturday.

Barcala: ‘Want magical nights with our fans in Unterhaching’

José Barcala: “We’ve been given a very exciting and challenging set of Champions League fixtures. We’re facing some of the best teams in Europe in holders Barcelona, as well as Real Madrid and Manchester City. That’s what makes this competition so special. We believe in our quality and want to take the next step in the Champions League. These games are a big opportunity for us to measure our development and see where we stand and continue to grow. If you want to go far in this competition, you need to test yourself against the best teams. That’s the challenge we’re looking forward to. We’ve got great respect for each opponent and will prepare very well. We’re particularly excited for the home games in Unterhaching. We want to experience magical nights with our fans there and create a really special atmosphere.”

Bühl: ‘Amazing home fixtures’

Klara Bühl: “We’ve got amazing home fixtures – real crackers against Barcelona, Real Madrid and Man City. That’s the first thing I thought and I’m really excited. Hopefully we can fill the stadium in Unterhaching and kick off our first Champions League season there in style. But I’m also really excited for the away games. Vienna is a new one. We’ve played against Benfica and PSG a few times in recent years. It won’t be easy but it’s all very exciting. My personal highlight is maybe the home game against Manchester City because Sydney Lohmann plays there. But Real Madrid at home will also be huge. We’ve got a big task ahead of us, but we want to come through it, finish in the top four and progress automatically to the knockout stage.”

Damnjanović: ‘Will be really exciting’

Jovana Damnjanović: “It’ll be really exciting. We’ve been drawn against super opponents. We’ve got three very attractive home games that we can all look forward to. I’m personally very happy that we got Austria Vienna and will play against Bayern legend Carina Wenninger. I’m also excited to face Real Madrid and see Arianna Caruso again. Plus there’s the reunion with Sydney Lohmann at Manchester City. The opposition are good but so are we. We’ll take on every fight and challenge. I think we can get through the league phase.”

Bayern’s league-phase opponents:

Barcelona (H)

Bayern have been handed a home tie against the defending champions. It was Barcelona who ended the Bavarians’ run in the semi-finals last season. The first leg at the Allianz Arena ended in a 1-1 draw, before José Barcala’s side went down 4-2 at the Camp Nou. The title holders from Spain have been one of Europe’s best teams for a while, winning the Champions League four times in the last six years.

Paris Saint-Germain (A)

Bayern claimed an impressive 3-1 victory over PSG at the Parc des Princes in last season’s league phase. The Munich Frauen will again travel to Paris this year for a fixture that’s created some memorable moments down the years, including a 1-0 win in the French capital in the 2023/24 group stage. The return fixture that season looked like producing another Bayern three points, until an own goal in the 88th minute and a disallowed goal in added time saw it finish 2-2 and result in Bayern’s elimination before the knockout rounds. There was also the 2021/22 quarter-finals when Bayern failed to overturn a 2-1 first-leg defeat with a 2-2 draw back in Munich. What will the next chapter of this fixture bring in 2026/27?

Real Madrid (H)

Bayern will face Real Madrid in a competitive women’s fixture for the first time. Runners-up in Spain last season, they came through the play-offs to reach the league phase, beating Ajax 4-1 on aggregate. The sides met in a friendly ahead of 2025/26 as the Reds won 4-1 at the Campus.

Real finished seventh in last season’s league phase and went on to reach the quarter-finals. They are yet to win a title domestically, having been league runners-up on five occasions. Sara Däbritz and Arianna Caruso are two former Bayern players in the Madrid ranks.

Manchester City (H)

City qualified for the league phase as winners of the English Women’s Super League, having pipped Arsenal in a tight title race. The two-time domestic champions and four-time Women’s FA Cup winners have twice reached the semi-finals in the Champions League (2017 and 2018). This fixture at Sportpark Unterhaching will see two ex-Bayern players return to Munich in Sydney Lohmann and Vivianne Miedema.

Austria Vienna (A)

The champions of Germany will visit the champions of Austria in this game after the Vienna club overturned a 2-1 deficit to Brann in the play-offs, winning 4-0 in the second leg. The capital club are 13-time domestic champions and have lifted the cup on 12 further occasions. Last season they reached the last eight of the Women’s Europa Cup. Former Bayern captain Carina Wenninger is on the books there.

Benfica (A)

Benfica have become a familiar opponent for Bayern in the Champions League. The Munich Frauen came from 2-0 down to snatch a last-minute win in Lisbon in the 2022/23 group stage, before Klara Bühl’s brace in a 2-0 victory back at home. The six-time champions of Portugal qualified directly for the league phase this season as domestic champions.
