Comeback & debut: First minutes for Oberdorf, Naschenweng & Klink

The joint friendly for the FC Bayern Women first and second teams against Newcastle United features happy faces and some special moments. Lena Oberdorf returned to action for the first time after her cruciate and medial collateral ligament injury and in doing so made her debut for FC Bayern. The 23-year-old German international dictated the play in midfield for 45 minutes. Katharina Naschenweng made her comeback from a knee sprain, also playing a half, while summer signing Anna Klink made her first appearance in a Bayern shirt against the English second-tier side and kept goal for 61 minutes. Congratulations on the comebacks and the debut! A total of 15 players from the reserve team also featured in the friendly.

The Munich girls, starting with five players from the first team, controlled the game at the start with the majority of the possession, while Newcastle sat back and looked to hit on the counter. Maria Plattner and Naschenweng had good early chances, but both failed to find the net. The visitors surprisingly took the lead shortly before the break: after Klink initially made a strong reflex save, Shania Hayles netted the rebound to make it 1-0.

Coaches  José Barcala and Jérôme Reisacher brought on eight players from the second string for the second half. As a result, Newcastle increasingly took charge of proceedings and Lois Joel made it 2-0 with a shot from the edge of the area in the 63rd minute. Eleven minutes later, Joel was the scorer again with a header. Bayern didn’t give up, though, and reduced the deficit on 77 minutes when Elira Terakaj reacted quickest to a misplaced backpass in the visitors’ defence, making it a final scoreline of 3-1.
