FC Bayern Women kick off season with Supercup victory

FC Bayern Women got their hands on the first silverware of the new season by beating Wolfsburg 4-2 in the 2025 Google Pixel Supercup. Magdalena Eriksson’s thumping effort in the 18th minute got the José Barcala era up and running before Jovana Damnjanović doubled the advantage shortly after. Wolfsburg got back into the game after half-time through Vivien Endemann, but Lea Schüller’s well-taken volley and Georgia Stanway’s penalty wrapped things up, despite a late spot-kick for Janina Minge to reduce the deficit.

Eriksson and Damnjanović get things rolling

It was an intense encounter from the start as both teams battled to take control in Karlsruhe. The first big chance fell to the Munich Frauen when Damnjanović flicked the ball into the path of Stanway, but she was denied by Stina Johannes in the Wolfsburg goal. Last season’s Bundesliga runners-up responded promptly when Endemann picked out Lena Lattwein from the right, but her shot was deflected by Linda Dallmann into the arms of Ena Mahmutović.

The double winners finally had the breakthrough after 18 minutes when Eriksson fired the ball high into the net after some nice passing play. The second goal came just seven minutes later when Damnjanović drove into the box from the left past Joelle Wedemeyer and fired beyond Johannes inside the near post. Wolfsburg got into the game some more as the half wore on, with a Lineth Beerensteyn header against the bar the closest they came.

Oberdorf involved on return

Barcala’s team retook control after the restart and soon had the ball in the Wolfsburg net again, but Stanway’s header was ruled out by referee Riem Hussein for a foul by Damnjanović in the build-up. The She-Wolves got a goal back before the hour when a corner fell to Endemann.

There was warm applause on 62 minutes when Lena Oberdorf entered the game on her return to competitive action following a year out injured. She quickly got to celebrate a goal on the pitch when Schüller chested the ball down after a counter-press and volleyed past Johannes into the top corner. Stanway finally had her goal after 77 minutes when she converted a penalty awarded after Oberdorf was pulled down by Justine Kielland, who was shown a second yellow card. There was still time for Wolfsburg to get one back from the spot themselves after Oberdorf was herself penalised for a foul in the box, with Minge putting away the penalty, but it didn’t matter as Bayern lifted the Supercup for a second year in a row.
