FC Bayern Women retain Bundesliga title with victory at Union Berlin

FC Bayern Women are Google Pixel Bundesliga champions for 2025/26 after a 3-2 win away at Union Berlin on Wednesday. Edna Imade opened the scoring in the Matchday 23 fixture, before Sophie Weidauer struck back for the hosts. Barbara Dunst restored the advantage, but Union again responded through Lia Kamber. However, Giulia Gwinn came off the bench to hit the decisive goal as the Munich Frauen won the title for the fourth year in a row and eighth time overall.

A new club record of 19 consecutive Bundesliga wins in a row takes Bayern to 64 points – an unassailable 15 ahead of Wolfsburg, who drew 0-0 at Werder Bremen at the same time, at the summit with four games to play. The team will be presented with the trophy after their final home game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt at the FC Bayern Campus on 9 May.

Even first half

Bayern came up against a home side happy to sit back and break, but it was the champions-in-waiting who took the lead inside eight minutes when Edna turned in Bernadette Amani’s shot. However, Union provided a response only three minutes later when they won the ball in midfield and Weidauer ran through to beat Ena Mahmutovic. That was the hosts’ only shot of the first half as Bayern set about regaining the advantage, with the best effort coming from Linda Dallmann’s long-range attempt that goalkeeper Cara Bösl turned behind.

Dramatic second half

José Barcala’s side were again on the front foot after the restart and retook the lead when Dunst fired into the bottom left corner from outside the box. However, Union hit back once more as Kamber put her shot past Mahmutovic with 77 minutes gone. The final word came from Gwinn, though, who combined with fellow substitute Klara Bühl to force the ball over the line at the far post and wrap up the title.

Barcelona first leg then Bremen

There’s little time to celebrate this trophy as Bayern turn their attentions to competition, starting on Saturday as they welcome Barcelona to the Allianz Arena for the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final tie (18:00 CEST, tickets available here!). Barcala’s side are then away at Werder Bremen for their rearranged Bundesliga fixture on Wednesday (18:00).
