Hard-fought first half

After sporting director Biana Rech presented referee Riem Hussein with a gift to mark her final match, the hosts got off to the better start, with Kathi Naschenweng clearing a free-kick and Ena Mahmutovic blocking against HSV’s Melina Krüger.

Things settled down after that, FCB slowly but surely asserting their authority but struggling against HSV’s compact defence. Carolin Simon’s corner found Vanessa Gilles, who headed over after the half-hour.

It was a hard-fought affair after the restart, with HSV looking for an opener, but Bayern had the first clear-cut chance when Arianna Caruso’s fine pass teed up Dunst, who was denied by HSV keeper Lea Paulick. Kett let fly from 20 yards after 58 minutes but aimed too close to Paulick.

Munich upped the pressure and Edna Imade headed onto the roof of the net from Momoko Tanikawa’s cross (75’). Annalena Wucher upended Tanikawa in the frantic closing stages, referee Hussein pointing to the spot. Up stepped Stanway, who kept her cool and left Paulick without a chance to score a late winner and round off the season.
