50 Bundesliga games unbeaten - FCB Women win comfortably in Leipzig
- Bayern unbeaten in 50 league games
- Eighth win in eighth Bundesliga game this season
- Dallmann makes 300rd Bundesliga appearance
FC Bayern Women extended their impressive run with a 5-1 victory at RB Leipzig on Friday evening, making it 50 Bundesliga matches unbeaten. Momoko Tanikawa put the double winners in front in the eighth minute, before an own goal from Zenia Mertens made it 2-0 (14’). Klara Bühl netted the third in the 55th minute and the fourth 18 minutes later. In the closing stages, Ena Mahmutovic was sent off for a foul on Nikée van Dijk, which meant Vanessa Giles went in goal as Bayern had already used all their substitutes. She conceded a goal to Leipzig’s Marleen Schimmer, but Edna Imade had the final say with her strike (85’).
There was a milestone on the Munich side as Linda Dallmann made her 300th appearance in the Women’s Bundesliga in Saxony. The result extends Bayern’s lead at the top of the table to six points ahead of the weekend’s fixtures and continues their formidable run.
Kett: ‘Produced a good performance’
Franziska Kett: “I think we can be pleased with the game. We produced a good performance, created a lot of chances and scored a lot of goals. The fact it’s also our 50th Bundesliga game in a row without defeat is obviously something special. We’ve performed consistently well over the past months and years – that’s reflected in the results. The red card at the end was obviously disappointing, but those situations happen in football. We have to accept it and look forward. Vanessa did a really good job in goal. Now it’s about carrying the momentum forward and concentrating on the next match.”

2-0 after 14 minutes – Bayern establish early lead
The hosts had the first dangerous opening of the game, with Anna Simonsson having a shot blocked. Two minutes later, RBL goalkeeper Elvira Herzog was called into acton for the first time, turning Tanikawa’s low strike onto the post and behind. However, Herzog was beaten from the resulting corner. She tried to punch the delivery away but didn’t make a clean contact, and Tanikawa managed to hook the rebound in.
Bayern doubled the lead in the 14th minute – albeit with some help from their opponents again. Bühl nutmegged her marker to make some space for herself on the left side, and the 25-year-old’s teasing ball across goal was unluckily turned into her own bet by Mertens from close range. The Munich girls kept the ball well after that and had the majority of the play. They had an opportunity to extend their lead shortly before the break, but Alara fired over from 15 metres after being teed up by Bühl.

FCB claim deserved away win
Leipzig came out on the front foot after the break and van Dijk had the first chance, but her shot from the edge of the box flew well wide. Soon after, she was played in by a through ball and hit it first-time, but Mahmutovic reacted quickly and held the attempt. The hosts kept plugging away and pushing for a way back into the contest, but just as they were growing in confidence, Bayern struck once again: Bernadette Amani won possession on the edge of her own box and sent Bühl away a precise deep ball. The Germany international kept her cool one-on-one and slotted confidently into the right corner.
With the score at 3-0, Leipzig barely got out of their own half now as Bayern took control and looked for the next goal. In the 73rd minute, the visitors added a fourth goal in style. Bühl drove through the centre and played a one-two with Imade just outside the penalty area, which took out the Leipzig defence. Free in front of Herzog, Bühl found the bottom left corner with a composed finish. However, the celebrations didn’t last long. Two minutes later, Sarah Mattner underhit a back-pass and van Dijk got between the ball and Mahmutovic. The Bayern custodian couldn’t get there in time and upended the RBL forward, which led to a red card from referee Levke Scholz. With no substitutions left, Gilles had to go in goal. Schimmer scored from the resulting free kick but even with a numerical disadvantage, FCB didn’t hold back and wrapped up the 5-1 win in the 85th minute, Dallmann taking advantage of space on the left and feeding Imade in the penalty area, who slotted home.
