FCB Women at Rosengård: 'Defence as the key to good performances'

The last FC Bayern Women's Champions League trip of the year is coming up! Following head coach Alexander Straus' side's superb 3-1 win against Barcelona a week ago, the Munich women meet Rosengård in Malmö, Sweden, on Thursday, 15 December. Kick-off is at 18:45 CET, with the match being streamed live and for free by DAZN.

The situation

The team can look back on an extremely successful group stage in the UEFA Women's Champions League so far. With nine points from four games, the Munich women are second in the table, level on points with first-placed Barcelona. Bayern enjoyed a magical European Cup night last Wednesday when they beat the reigning Spanish champions 3-1 in front of 24,000 spectators at the Allianz Arena. A win in Sweden would be the next big step towards the quarter-finals. Were the FCB women to pick up more points than Benfica against Barcelona at 21.00 CET on Thursday, the Munich women would already qualify for the first knockout stage ahead of schedule.

Their opponents from Rosengård, a district in the east of Malmö, are still waiting for their first point in this year's UWCL season. The Swedes have lost all four group matches so far with a 3:10 goal difference, which includes the first leg in mid-October in Munich, which FCB won 2-1.

The quotes

Head coach Alexander Straus: "The first leg in October was very difficult. We went behind early on, but came back very well. For Rosengård, there's nothing left to play for in the group apart from pride. That's always a dangerous situation, but we are very positive and are aiming to win the game."

Glódís Viggósdóttir: "I expect a similar match to the first leg. Rosengård will be very defensive and look for counter-attacking opportunities. Even if they can't make it to the quarter-finals, they'll try everything against us and will want to beat us. But if we play our game, we'll win. We've been playing in a very focused way in the last few months and defending better than last season, and that's the key to our good performances."

The statistics

Good memories of Rosengård! Bayern have won all three previous clashes with the Swedish champions. In addition to the first-leg win of the current campaign, the Bavarians also prevailed in the UWCL quarter-finals of the 2020/21 season, when they also won in Malmö (1-0) after the 3-0 in the first leg at the FC Bayern Campus.

The team news

Linda Dallmann (muscle strain), Hanna Glas (knee surgery), Giulia Gwinn (cruciate ligament rupture), Jovana Damnjanović (muscle tear) and Maximiliane Rall (nasal bone fracture) are still not available to play.
