Bayern Women look to stay on top at home to Duisburg

Top versus bottom! On Sunday evening, FC Bayern Women host MSV Duisburg on Matchday 7 of the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga, kicking off at 18:30 CET at the FC Bayern Campus. State of play, pre-match quotes and team news – it's all in the preview.

The state of play

Thanks to the 2-1 victory in the top-of-the-table clash against VfL Wolfsburg last Sunday, the Munich girls claimed top spot in the Women's Bundesliga for the first time this season. Head coach Alexander Straus' side now lead the table with 14 points, ahead of last season's runners-up Wolfsburg (13 points) followed by Hoffenheim and Leverkusen (11 points each). The aim against MSV is to consolidate first place and make it five wins from seven games in the league.

FCB Women and captain Glódís Viggósdóttir are looking to register their fifth league win of the season on Sunday.

The opponents: MSV Duisburg

Duisburg, who finished 10th last term, currently prop up the table in 12th place with two points. After two draws and four defeats, the Zebras are the only side in the league still waiting for a first win. Last time out, Thomas Gerstner's side collected their second point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to promoted team RB Leipzig thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser.

The team news

Straus will again be without long-term absentees Pernille Harder (knee), Carolin SimonWeronika Zawistowska (both cruciate ligament) and Cécilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir (dislocated kneecap). Lina Magull will also miss out again with the muscle injury she sustained against Leipzig.

Straus: Duisburg are good in build-up play

Alexander Straus: "Duisburg play out from the back bravely and are good in build-up play. We know we'll get spaces against them, which we have to make use of to score goals. The motivation and concentration must always be high for us, regardless of who we're playing. That's all that counts and that's the mentality we have to show on the day."

Sydney Lohmann: "We're highly motivated and are taking the elation from Sunday with us. The mood is really good after the weekend and we clearly want all three points in the next game. In Duisburg we're expecting a motivated team, but one we'll try to break down."
